Can UK Businesses Use Claude, and How Do You Set It Up?

Yes. Claude is available in the UK, and it is made by Anthropic, a US company with a growing London office. A business with a team should start on the Team plan, which keeps your content out of model training by default. Then set it up once, write your rules and train people on their own work.
This page covers the questions a UK business asks before it buys: which plan, what it costs, where the data stands and who can help. If you want the basics of what Claude does first, read what Claude is and how UK businesses use it.
Is Claude available in the UK?
Yes. The United Kingdom is on Anthropic's list of supported regions, which covers the Claude apps, Claude Code, Cowork and the API. A UK business can sign up directly at claude.com and pay by card. You do not need a US address or a reseller to get started.
Large UK firms already run it. In October 2026 Anthropic published an account of Barclays, the British bank, scaling Claude across its operations. The same plans are open to a ten-person firm.
Who makes Claude, and is it British?
Anthropic makes and owns Claude. Anthropic is an American AI company, founded in 2021 and headquartered in San Francisco. It is a public benefit corporation, set up with the stated purpose of developing advanced AI responsibly for the long-term benefit of humanity.
So Claude is American, with a large British footprint. In April 2026 Anthropic announced London office space for around 800 people and said it already had more than 200 staff in the city. It signed a memorandum of understanding with the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology in February 2025 to explore AI in public services, and later partnered with the government on an AI assistant for GOV.UK.
Which Claude plan should a UK business buy?
Anthropic sells five plans. Three are for individuals and two are for organisations. For a business, the split that matters is who controls the accounts and what happens to your content.
| Plan | Who it suits | Admin and sign-in | Training on your content |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Trying Claude out | None | Each user can opt out |
| Pro | One person using it daily | None | Each user can opt out |
| Max | One heavy user who needs more capacity | None | Each user can opt out |
| Team | Teams of 2 to 150 | Central billing, single sign-on, admin controls for connectors | Off by default |
| Enterprise | 20 seats or more, billed annually | Adds role-based access, SCIM, audit logs and custom data retention | Off by default |
For most UK teams, the Team plan is the right place to start. Every seat sits under one bill, one admin and one sign-in. You can mix standard and premium seats, so your heaviest users get more capacity without you paying for it across the whole team. Enterprise makes sense once you need audit logs, automated user provisioning or custom data retention, and you have at least 20 people to put on it.
The set-up we meet most often is staff on personal Pro accounts, and it is the one to move away from. The business cannot see those accounts, cannot close one when someone leaves, and relies on each person to opt out of training. If your team also lives in Microsoft 365, read Claude vs Copilot before you buy seats in both.
If the business is you, or you and one other person, a Pro or Max account each is usually enough. The Founders plugin is built for that size of business.
What does Claude cost in the UK?
Anthropic publishes its prices on the Claude pricing page. As of October 2026, that page lists the Team plan at $20 per standard seat per month billed annually, or $25 billed monthly. Premium seats are $100 a month billed annually, or $125 monthly. Enterprise is listed at US$20 per seat per month plus usage at API rates, billed annually, with a 20 seat minimum.
We could not confirm a fixed sterling price for any plan, so check the page from a UK billing address before you set a budget. The page states that its prices do not include applicable tax.
On VAT, Anthropic's help centre says your billing address sets your tax jurisdiction. A VAT-registered business can add its VAT number when it signs up for Team, or later in its billing settings. Changes apply to future invoices only, so add the number before the first bill. Ask your accountant how to treat the invoices in your VAT return.
Budget for more than seats. Licences sit unused when nobody has shown people how Claude fits the work they already do. Our prices for set-up, training and governance are published on the Ignite pricing page.
Is Claude safe for UK data and UK GDPR?
The plan decides most of the answer. On Team and Enterprise, Anthropic says it does not train its models on your content by default. On Free, Pro and Max, each user has to opt out. That alone is reason enough to keep business data on a business plan.
For UK GDPR, Anthropic's Data Processing Addendum forms part of its Commercial Terms of Service. It includes a UK Addendum, the International Data Transfer Addendum issued by the Information Commissioner, which applies to personal data that falls under UK GDPR. Your business still decides what personal data goes into Claude, and higher-risk processing still needs a DPIA.
The contract covers Anthropic's side. Your side is the rules: which folders Claude can open, what it may send, who signs off client work. We write those rules with you and build them into Claude, so they apply on every request whether or not the person asking has read them. The work is aligned to ISO 42001 and UK GDPR and follows the DSIT AI Risk Management Toolkit. It sits under AI governance.
How do you get a team using Claude?
Buying seats is the easy part. People start using Claude when they see it do a job they already do every week. Four steps get you there.
- Set it up once. One organisational set-up, so everyone starts on the same structure.
- Agree the rules. Decide what Claude may send, read and delete before anyone connects email, files or finance systems.
- Train in small rooms on real work. Each person brings one weekly job, builds it into Claude and leaves with it working.
- Come back at day 30. Check what stuck, fix what slipped.
That is how our Claude training for your team runs: one organisational set-up, then a Team Day for each room of up to 10, in person or remote, with a return visit at day 30. For the method in more detail, read how to train your team on Claude.
Who can help set Claude up in the UK?
Anthropic runs the Claude Partner Network for firms that build with and deliver Claude, and lists members in a public directory at claude.com/partners. Check any partner there before you sign, and ask how they are paid. A partner that earns commission on licences has a reason to push seats.
Ignite AI Solutions is a Claude Certified Services Partner in that network, working with UK businesses. We take no commission on licences from any vendor, so if Copilot suits you better, we tell you. For teams of ten or more, start with Claude training and the organisational set-up. For what the partnership covers, see our Claude Partner page. If you are a business of one or two people, the Founders plugin sets Claude up around your work, then gives you 2 hours one to one with a trained IgniteAI practitioner.
